A Brotha in the Kitchen Presents.......Dayyyyum Look at That Lemon Pepper Fried Chicken







If you know me you know frying chicken has been a thorn in my side for YEARS! It’s either not crispy enough, the batter falls off, it cooks to fast and burns….something!


Well, fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and I stumble across one of those Facebook cooking videos, “best fried chicken recipe ever” blah blah blah……….


Listen…….this may actually be the best fried chicken recipe ever!


This chicken was AMAZING! It was crispy, it was flavorful and it was EASY!


With that being said, A Brotha in the Kitchen Presents: Dayyyyyum Look at That Lemon Pepper Fried Chicken




  • 5 chicken legs (although any chicken pieces of choice would work)

  • 2 Lemons

  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup of cornstarch

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup buttermilk

  • 1 tablespoon of salt

  • 2 tablespoons of Sazon

  • 1 tablespoon of black pepper

  • ½ tablespoon of garlic powder

  • ¼ cup of hot sauce of choice

  • ¾ cup of honey

  • 48 ounces of veggie oil





Lets Get Cooking!



  • Heat oil in dutch oven over medium-medium/low heat for 15 minutes

  • Wash chicken, pat dry and place into bowl

  • Add all dry seasoning and stir chicken around to get it well coated with spices



  • Next, add hot sauce, egg, and buttermilk. Stir well.


  • In a separate bowl add flour and cornstarch and mix well

  • Using tongs, pick up chicken, coat with flour and cornstarch mixture. Shake off excess flour and gently place into the hot oil (this should take 15-20 minutes)


  • While the chicken is cooking its time to make your lemon pepper honey!

  • Zest the two lemons into a small pot, add your honey, juice from the two lemons and fresh cracked black pepper. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.


  • Finally, once your chicken is golden brown, remove from the oil, let it drain on some paper towels, then drizzle with your lemon pepper honey and that’s it!! Enjoy!
