A Brotha in the Kitchen Presents.......Souper Simple Kale & Kidney Bean Soup

If you know me you know I really love soup. You may also know I do most of my cooking while Roman is running around the kitchen. So it's always a plus when I can whip something up in 45 minutes or less!


With that being said, this soup really hit the mark! It was simple, flavorful, had texture and really filling! I was inspired by a recipe I saw on  Kitchenista Diaries (who is a really dope chef btw).


With that being said, A Brotha in the Kitchen Presents: SOUPER (pun intended) Simple Kale & Kidney Bean Soup!




  • 1lb bagged kale

  • 1 pack of smoked sausage (sliced)

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 1/2 chopped large yellow onion

  • 3 oz tomato paste

  • 1tsp cumin

  • 2 tbsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp smoked sea salt

  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp black pepper

  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • 2 cups water

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 can kidney beans (undrained)


Lets Get Cooking!



  • Heat a dutch oven over medium heat for about 5 minutes

  • add butter and sliced sausage

  • Cook for about 8 minutes (stirring a few times) until the sausage starts to get the nice brown crisp we all love

  • Next add your chopped onions, tomato paste and all your seasonings and let cook another 5 minutes

  •  Add kale to the pot along with the chicken broth and water

  • Kick back, relax and let it simmer for 25 minutes to let the kale soften up

  •  Finally, add your kidney beans for the last 5 minutes, stir in apple cider vinegar, remove from heat and serve!
